Pencil inscription on verso reads: "This plate (copper) was stolen from Wm. Hamlin during this edition by someone unknown to him. Only 20 were struck, he being dissatisfied with the nose and intending to correct it. This he stated to me this 25 Oct 1864. Was 92 years o. Oct. 15 inst."
