DescriptionWine glass: Pointed, rounded funnel bowl with a tear in the base on flattened knop above baluster stem consisting of acorn knop with large long tear above a small true baluster knop. Folded conical foot.Label TextBritish stemware evolved dramatically during the eighteenth century. Early glasses featured bold knops. Gradually, emphasis shifted from the shape of the stem to the decorative possibilities offered by the inclusion of interlaced strands of trapped air or colored glass. It can be difficult to distinguish the specific function of early drinking vessels, but this glass was likely used for wine. Eighteenth-century glasses have a much smaller capacity than is standard today.Inscription(s)NoMark(s)NoProvenanceSource: Maureen Thompson, 34 Kensington Church Street, London W8 4EP, Englandca. 1700
