DescriptionA velvet purse, faded to greenish-gold, with metal clasp and carrying chain.ProvenanceLackman (AARFAM's source) obtained this purse along with two likenesses of Jane Vanderveer (see "Related Objects") from a Mrs. Elizabeth Brown. Per Lackman, Mrs. Brown claimed that the purse shown in Vanderveer's pastel portrait (1986.200.1) was this same purse (but note that the clasp is somewhat different). Lackman affirmed that Mrs. Brown was NOT a Vanderveer family descendant but that her mother had been close friends with Mr. Perine Welch of Adelphia, New Jersey, who WAS a Vanderveer descendant. Mr. Welch and Mrs. Brown were members of the same church. [See B. Luck memo to file of 12/29/1986].1680-1700
