DescriptionWave rim plate; five lobed.Label TextIt is well to reiterate that the edgings on fancy rim plates and dishes were generally cast separately and applied, as in this handsome set of plates. A pair of identical plates with the same engraved arms, though in a more worn condition, is also in the Williamsburg Collection.Inscription(s)Arms of the Adair family of Ballymena, Co. Antrim, engraved within a rococo cartouche on face of each rim.Mark(s)Touch mark a portcullis framed by "IAMES" and "TISOE" within curved reserves above and below and scrolls to either side on underside of each rim (London Touch Plate IV, 854; Cotterell 4755; Peal MPM 4754). Secondary mark a shaped vertical oval containing FINE/BG[script]/BRITISH/BP[script]/METAL on underside of each rim (Cotterell 4755; Peal MPM 4754).ProvenanceR.S.
