DescriptionTea canister and coverLabel TextCharles Gouyn's St. James's Factory is known for its important series of figures and its group of toys (scent bottles, seals, and etuis). Only a few examples of usefulwares have been identified as products of that short-lived factory. Among them are two sugar bowls with covers, a casket of glass bottles, and a pair of coffee cups, all of which are decorated with enamel flowers. This tea canister and an identical one in the Schreiber Collection are the only examples of recorded St. James usefulwares that are entirely in the white.Prior to the discovery of Gouyn's identity, his St. James's Factory was called the Girl-in-a-Swing Factory by 20th-century decorative arts scholars.Inscription(s)NoneMark(s)NoneProvenanceTilley & Company, London
