Bluish tin glaze decorated in deep blue: in the well, the full coat of arms of the London Tallow Chandlers' Company including crest, supporters, and the motto "ECCE AGNUS DEI QUI TOLLIT PECCATA MUNDI"; on the rim, a Chinese border of trellis diapering and flowers. Brown edge.Label TextThe Worshipful Company of Tallow Chandlers produced the candles used for lighting homes, businesses, and the streets. Until the end of the seventeenth century, when oil came into use, the Tallow Chandlers' Company was a powerful organization. The more expensive beeswax candles, used by churches and in great homes, were the responsibility of another company.
