DescriptionShallow saucer form with fluted and scalloped edge; foot ring; decorated in polychrome with fable of "The Lion and the Frog": the lion with tail between his legs and blowing mane, looks down at the tiny frog, brown tree and rocks to left of scene, and mountains, birds and sky in background; 4 floral sprays encircle near the edge; brown line around edge.Label TextThe painted fables "The Lion and the Frog" and "The Lioness and the Fox" can perhaps be attributed to Jefferyes Hammett O'Neale due to their similarity to a cream jug in the CWF collection (accession 1967-70) and other pieces attributed to him. The design source for "The Lion and the Frog" is unknown. The Croxall design is quite different, and the fable does not appear in Barlow at all.
