DescriptionSilver stand or plateau for epergne. Shaped, oblong plateau raised on four dolphin scroll feet, the molded sides applied with foliate scroll cartouches each enclosing the same crest, the field elaborately flat-chased with broad band of foliate scrolls and panels of rocaille enclosing the same armorials, with wooden backing with later metal reinforcement. Consists of three parts: A) body of plateau; B: wooden backing; C: metal reinforcement.Label TextFirst used in England in the 1720s, the epergne quickly became the center of attention on the tables of the wealthy.
