DescriptionPot: Flat flared rim with rolled edge on globular body of squat proportions on splayed base; cat scroll handle of D-shaped section soldered to rim and loop-shaped terminal soldered to to lower part of body below center seam.Label TextJohn Carruthers Crane went into business on his own in 1821. We know from a surviving handbill that the range of goods that he made and/or retailed was extensive. It lists both "Hard Chamber Pots" and "Common ditto." His retirement in 1838 marked an end to Bewdley as a pewtering center. That his molds passed into the possession of the Birmingham firm of Yates, Birch and Spooner is indicative of the centralization of England's failing pewter industry at that time.Inscription(s)NoneMark(s)Touch mark "ICC" within a serrated rectangle on interior center-bottom of body (Cotterell 1197; Homer and Hall 16).
