DescriptionDining table with flat rectangular top, with a deep, rectangular drop leaf at each side; each leaf hinged to top with three plain, butt hinges; plain, straight skirt on each end; table supported by six plain legs, square in cross section; inner leg on each side wings out on gate to support leaf when extended.Mark(s)Each table branded three time with initials " P E E"; once on underside of top; once behind each gateProvenanceThese tables are probably the "2 Mahogany Dining Tables" made by Robert Carter of New York for l 10 and billed to "Mr. Elmendorf" on August 28, 1793, the year of his marriage to his first wife. The tables then probably went to his daughter Maria, wife of Peter Sanders; their son Charles P. and their son Livingston who married Addie Ten Broeck and who owned the tables before their purchase by Mr Palmiter. The tables were not at Scotia when purchase (see comments of Mrs. J Glen Sanders in OF Files 1964-205-206)
