DescriptionMolded rectangular tureen, cover, and stand with canted corners. Cover has applied apple finial, tureen has face masks at each end and a tapered foot, and stand has a pronounced vertical foot ring. Whitish tin glaze decorated in blue with a Chinese landscape including spotted deer, pines, and rockwork. On the rim of the stand, a border of trellis diaper, stylized flowers, and scrolls. On the reverse of each piece, a numeral 8.Label TextDelft tureens of this form are generally believed to have been made in Dublin, although a similar tureen (from a service represented by CWF accession 1951-131) is attributed to the Delftfield pottery in Glasgow, Scotland. The only difference between the two tureens is that the finial on the Delftfield piece is shaped more like a pear than an apple.Inscription(s)"8" in underglaze blue on reverse reverse of each piece.Mark(s)NoProvenanceTilley & Co., London
