DescriptionOctagonal bowl with flaring raised edged rim, painted with brown line. Decorated in a monochrome purple landscape with a horseman in the middle ground whipping two laborers, in the background to the right, buildings among trees and to the left a castle across a river. The scene is bordered by two trees in the foreground and the reverse is painted with a rose.Label TextA similar bowl--surviving as part of an incomplete, fable-decorated tea service--suggests that such pieces served as sugar bowls. However, none of the examples in museum collections has a cover and none shows the wear that a cover would cause.
