DescriptionThis is a vibrant green, rectangular worsted textile woven in a ribbed tabby weave and "watered" to form a moire pattern.Label TextIn this unused home furnishing fabric, the watered pattern was created by crushing the ribbed weave structure under pressure. The process flattened and distorted some of the ridges and resulted in the “watered” appearance. Permanent crease lines where the textile was folded face-to-face were also a result of the process.ProvenanceFound in a cottage in Burford High Street, Oxfordshire, England.1750 to 1800
