This scene depicts painting. A lovely garden is occupied by a group of young people. In the left corner a young man and lady sit on the ground looking towards the center where another young lady sits painting. She has the outline of a girl on her canvas. The subject of the painting sits in a settee posing. Behind the painter a young man stands admiring the work. Behind the young woman posing stands another watching the work as it progresses. A dog lies sleeping at the feet of the young woman.ProvenanceBefore 1959, the Old Print Shop (New York, NY); 1959-present, purchased by the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation (Williamsburg, VA).
