DescriptionCast iron fireback; vertical rectangle with arched top and quarter-round bead molding on top and side edges; the molding between the flush-type panel and the "stile-and-rail" border has the common bead-and-bevel section.Label TextThis fireback, acquired in Richmond in 1930, looks like a fragment of one excavated at the site of the Governor's Palace (Archeological collection #4-6-20A2), with an arched top, quarter-round bead molding on the top and side edges, and a molding between the flush-type panel and the "stile-and-rail" border. Its details and dimensions appear to be nearly identical, indicating that both may have come from the same works, thought to be Charles Chiswell’s Fredericktown Furnace.Mark(s)None foundProvenanceNot known.
