DescriptionSlip-decorated buff bodied cradle with hood. Central knop on top of hood, knop on either side of hood, one knop on center of each side panel, one knop (originally) at upper corners of foot board. Top of foot board with two curves with ends forming three points. Rocking runners on base beneath head and foot of cradle.Label TextCradles in a wide variety of sizes, ceramic materials, and ornamentation were provided from the late seventeenth century on. They were traditionally thought to have been made as wedding gifts (as a symbol of fertility) or to celebrate christenings; some may well have been made for purely ornamental uses as well.ProvenanceEx collection: C.
