DescriptionThe lower margin reads: "Taking pot Luck./ B.N. Esq.r del.t/ Etch.d & Pub.d July 12 1799 by J. Baldrey Cambridge"Label TextA chain reaction of accidents is shown in this print. A servant who is entering the room with a platter of meat is tripped by a dog causing him to fall over backwards. This brings his dish down on the head of one diner, who falls over, grabbing the table to catch his fall. Grabbing the table causes the table to tip over, leading to a plate of soup to spill over the other dining man. Another servant comes forward to try to stop this. Two lighted candles also fall over on the table.ProvenanceBefore 1957, the Old Print Shop (New York, NY); 1957-present, purchased by the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation (Williamsburg, VA).
