DescriptionShallow plate-shaped dish with incised foot ring. Bluish tin glaze with powdered manganese; in the center, an octagonal reserve with a waterside fortress outlined and painted in blue; on the rim, four blue and white swordfish; on the reverse rim, a band of alternating circles and double slash marks in blue on a slightly bluish glaze.Label TextMost known delft plates with this central scene have eight rim reserves featuring stylized flowers. At least one privately owned example has four carp on the rim, a design often found on plates with a chinoiserie central scene.
