DescriptionTurned peaked finial with ebonized pear wood on tuned waisted section with bolt and nut attachment to center-top of cover. Nearly flat circular cover inset into and hinged to top of globular body tapered towards base and resting on a molded baseband. Paneled duck neck spout with fowl's head tip and molding concealing join with body. C-scroll ebonized pear wood handle with scrolled grip fitting plain straight handle sockets. Ten circular perforations of body act as strainer for spout. Engraved on body around cover opening and partially on to cover with a border of shells, scrolls, foliage, and strapwork. Otherwise unengraved.Label TextGlobular teapots with curved and straight spouts, and often an engraved strapwork border around the cover opening, predominate during the 1720s and 1730s. One such teapot of 1730/31 by John England of London, having a straight spout, is engraved with the arms of the Nelson family of Yorktown, Virginia.
