DescriptionLower margin reads: "Temple Bar"Label TextA busy street scene at the Temple Bar gate is shown. People are walking in the street, looking in windows and shopping at street stands. Carriages and other types of conveyances are seen in the street. The famous gate dividing the two section of the city can be seen in detail. The two niches contain statues of James I and his Queen. On the other side not seen in print are niches containing statues of Charles I and Charles II.

Thomas Malton, RA, was known for his views of London which he collected and bound for a collection in multiple parts entitled, "A Picturesque Tour Through the Cities of London and Westminster, Illustrated With the most interesting Views, accurately delineated And executed in Aquatinta, (London: 1792 [-1802]). This view appeared in Volume I, pl. 44.
