DescriptionTeapot: globular body with crabstock handle applied opposite the crabstock spout with a seven-hole grate; conforming lid with a spool knop with central steam hole. Painted in red enamel: one side depicts a seated woman reading a book and resting her proper left elbow next to a dove-topped tomb on which is painted “Solitude is / my Choice”; the other side depicts a house and church with a bird weathervane atop its steeple, all amid a landscape with a tree and a stylized column of the ionic order.Inscription(s)Painted on one side with "Solitude is / my Choice".Mark(s)NoneProvenanceIn 2019, in the collection of Leonard Clarke (Vancouver, British Columbia). Acquired by Martyn Edgell (Peterborough, England) who, in 2020 subsequently sold it to the donor at the New York Ceramics Fair. In 2026 the donor gave it to the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation (Williamsburg, Virginia) where it remains to the present.
