DescriptionCoffeepot: a short stepped and trimmed foot supports the ovoid ogee body that rises to stepped broadly brimmed gallery; the body and gallery molded with three bands of vertical angular ribbing interrupted by smooth bands; the high-domed cover molded ensuite with the body sits within the gallery and is topped by an inverted acorn knop; the steam hole is to one side of the knop. The ribbed modified S-scroll spout with an oval 13-hole pierced strainer is applied to the middle of the body opposite the molded double C-scroll and barbed handle. The exterior covered in silver (platinum) luster.Label TextNewspapers up and down the Eastern seaboard advertised silver luster decorated tea and coffeepots available to early 19th century consumers for purchase as part of sets or separately. Fragments of a coffeepot identical to this example were recovered in Alexandria, Virginia.ProvenancePurchased by the donors at Jeffrey S. Evans Auctions (Mount Crawford, VA). In 2026, given to the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation (Williamsburg, Virginia) where it remains to the present.
