DescriptionLadder-back side chair with woven rush seat; turned, cylindrical stiles and legs, both with single bead turned on legs; bead turning located below seat on front legs and above seat and below lowest slat on stiles; turned flattened ball finials over ring and flattened ball at tops of stiles; three slightly shaped and arched, with somewhat pointed arches, slats tenoned into stiles, top two slats pegged at rear; double front and side rounded stretchers and one rear stretcher; rush seat (replaced rush); evidence of red and green paint in turnings.Label TextThis turned chair has a history in the Hudgins family of Mathews County, Virginia, and was likely produced in that area. Family histories are incredibly important when trying to determine the origin of turned chairs and other objects.ProvenanceDescended in the Hudgins family of New Point, Mathews County, Virginia to donor. Original owners are unknown.
