DescriptionThis nine light sash employs a typical mid-eighteenth century ovolo molding detail with wide muntins. Constructed from pine, the sash features through-tenoned and drawbore pegged joinery at the corners and the intersection of the muntins with the top and bottom rails. Some early handmade glass survives.Label TextThis 1760 upper sash is from what is now the first-floor, east room south window location of the exhibited classroom in the Bray School. This fixed upper sash was part of a nine-over-nine window arrangement. The windows were unweighted, with no lead weights to counterbalance the weight of the open sash. Instead, the lower sash would have moved in a vertical sash run and been held open with a sash cleat mounted to the exterior jamb of the window frame.ProvenanceWilliamsburg Bray School
