DescriptionFour lead-glazed earthenware (pearlware) plates: each transfer printed in blue with central scene of “THE LANDING OF THE FATHERS AT PLYMOUTH DEC 22 1620” commemorating the landing of the Mayflower and listing the names “Carver, Bradford / Winslow, Brewster / & Standish”; the border transfer printed with scrolls and eagles interrupted by four shield-shaped reserves, two with scenes of ships, one with the words, “AMERICA / INDEPENDENT / JULY 4 / 1776”, and the fourth with the words, “WASHINGTON / BORN 1732 / DIED 1799”. The reverse of each with three sets of triangular stilt marks on the edges of the rims and the base with the impressed splayed eagle mark with “ENOCH WOOD & SONS” above and ”BURSLEM” below.Label TextEnoch Wood's manufactory was one of the most prolific British potteries of the early 19th century.
