DescriptionCircular pewter plate with a flat rim, reinforced from the bottom, and a hammered booged well surrounded by an incised circle.Label TextThough American pewtersmiths produced plates of this size in large numbers, they couldn't meet the demand. To fill the void, English makers like John Fasson exported large quantities of pewter wares to America. This plate carries its owner's initials stamped into the rim, likely done on this side of the Atlantic.Mark(s)A dagger above a horseshoe flanked by foliage, below IOHN in a ribbon, and above FASSON in a ribbon, all in relief within a shaped cartouche (Cotterell 1636). Also, LONDON within a scroll, plus three (visible) hallmarks, all in relief.
