DescriptionPewter porringer with a "heart and crescent" handle composed of three lobes lightened by five apertures; three heart-shaped, one crescent, and one oval-shaped. The handle is supported from below by a triangular bracket, and a linen mark is visible inside the bowl in the corresponding area. Its bellied bowl has a low foot, an everted rim, and a raised boss at the bottom.Label TextThese diminutive "heart and crescent" handle vessels are common survivors, and date from the sunset of the porringer's popularity in America.Inscription(s)Bottom of handle scratched with either "H" or "SC" in script.Mark(s)Bottom of the handle has a retrograde "R" cast into it.
