DescriptionRectangular stool with short, angular cabriole legs; rails slightly offset from facade of tops of legs; wooden top screwed with modern screws to top of frame; previously upholstered, currently painted a dark color.Label TextThis little stool reflects the influence of Louisiana furniture on pieces from northern Kentucky. The short, angular cabriole legs are of the type found on French influenced Louisiana furniture including Colonial Williamsburg’s New Orleans armoire 2009-67 that has “pied de biche” feet. A group of furniture from the area of Mason County, Kentucky from the early 19th century have been found with related feet. Likely inspired by trade with Louisiana via the Mississippi River, Kentucky cabinetmakers incorporated these feet into their locally produced furniture.ProvenanceStool was found either in Fleming County, Kentucky or just north of Maysville, Kentucky in Ohio. Two dealer/picker provenances were provided to donor. Donor purchased stool from Blandon Cherry Antiques, Paris, KY in 2007. Blandon Cherry Antiques stated the stool was purchased from a picker in Fleming County, Kentucky but alternate information suggests they may have acquired the stool from Walter Bailey, an Owingsville, KY picker/dealer, who purchased it from Dennis Forsythe, picker/auctioneer, who acquired it at an auction about 7 miles north of Maysville, KY in Ohio.
