DescriptionDish: round lead-glazed earthenware (pearlware) dish painted in orange, yellow, brown, and green with a botanical pattern of leafy vines ending in flowerheads.Label TextPersian, French, or British block-printed textiles from the 18th or early 19th centuries may have served as the design inspiration for the pattern on this stunning dish. Great Britain’s war and peace relationship with Asia brought many similar influences on British decorative arts that were dispersed across media. This large plate or dish helps illustrate that influence and adds a beautiful example of early 19th century hand-painted design to the ceramics collection, enabling us to better illustrate the transfer of decorative motifs across cultures.
