DescriptionFigure of an owl with large circular eyes and hooked, open beak, holding two smaller owls, one on each wing. Body painted white, feathers and facial details painted in black. Beak and horns left natural orange.Label TextThe spread of the railroad during the early 20th century brought tourists to the Pueblos of New Mexico. Unidetsa Kallestewa and other potters from the Zuni Pueblo, took advantage of this new market. They produced wares, like this owl, that were popular with non-native customers; owls were often marketed by Zuni potters as guardians. Unidetsa Kallestewa was known for making particularly large owls of graceful ovid forms like this example.
