Label TextAfter Johann Michael Seligmann’s death, his heirs published his plates from “Sammlung verschiedener ausländischer und seltener Vögel” which was the German translation of George Edwards's “A Natural History of Birds” (1743-51) and “Gleanings of Natural History” (1758-64), and Mark Catesby's ‘The Natural History of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama Islands.’ This print comes from the French edition which was published in Nuremberg using Seligmann’s plates. This plate is from, Recueil de Divers Oiseaux," Volume II (Nuremberg: Heirs of Seligmann, 1768), Plate 85.ProvenanceBefore 2006, The People’s Store (Lambertville, NJ); 2006, purchased by Barnett Shepherd (Staten Island, NY); 2018-present, given to the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation (Williamsburg, VA).
