DescriptionUrn, of Lebes Gamikos form, comprising an egg-shaped body over spreading pedestal foot on square base with canted corners and cavetto-molded sides. The shoulder with an applied astragal bead. The neck incurvate with a flaring mouth. The mouth with ogee molding. The cover small and domed with a spherical finial. The cover and body possibly a marriage. The solid light-blue jasper body with white applied reliefs. These comprising a frieze of dancing putti with smallish censers, butterflies, bow and arrows, helmets, and hearts. In groupings commonly called " Bacchanalian Boys at Play." With two trees and rocks dividing the frieze. Insects fly over them. The shoulder, above the bead, with two applied handles of rounded form, applied horizontally and flaring outward. With masks at the bases of the handle. The shoulder with a pattern of acanthus leaves each separated by swags and stylized lotus leaves. The lower portion of the body with radiating laurel leaves with dots between. The top of the pedestal with an encircling band of beads. The edge of the foot trimmed with overlapping acanthus leaves, and the cavetto-molded sides with a design of dot and dash with swags of bell flowers.
