DescriptionOval fish strainer.Label TextThe originality of the strainer to the dish is confirmed by the same marks and engraved cipher on both pieces.Inscription(s)Owners' cipher "MRH" engraved on face of both rims.Mark(s)Touch mark a lamb passant with a dove with an olive branch in its bill flying above framed by "I TOWNSEND &" and "R REYNOLDS" above and below within curved reserves and with a small intervening shell to either side on underside of well of both strainer and dish (London Touch Plate IV, 1012: Cotterell 4797). Secondary marks (1) label "SUPERFINE/HARD METAL" in curved arrangement within an outlined oblong reserve with a central scrolled and foliated pendant (Cotterell 4795), (2) label "MADE IN/LONDON" within an outlined rectangular reserve with scrolled upper edge and canted lower corners, and (3) quality mark "X" with crown above, all stamped on underside of well of both strainer and dish.ProvenanceVendor: Price Glover Incorporated, New York City.
