DescriptionShaped beige legging extending half-way up thigh of two widths of napped cotton with inset gore to fit over instep. Nine brass buttons. Long cotton strap at top to fasten to belt although no leather strap at bottom to go under foot. Herringbone stitch used as seam edge finish. #2 is same in reverse.Construction History:
1. 1810-1840: Initially Constructed
2. February 13, 1958: Dry cleaned and restored. Original Buttons replaced with brass buttons. Last button near the foot on #1 is likely original. Work by Ernest LoNano.ProvenanceFrank Moss Bennett was an English history painter who owned a collection of antique and reproduction costumes to use as props. Some of the collection is now in the Museum of London. This costume, along with thirty-one others, was purchased from Bennett's daughter upon his death.
