DescriptionTimber scribe composed of a wood stock mounted with a filed iron and steel head equipped with a fixed pivoting point and scoop-shaped blade, along with another which swings out from the side.Label TextAlso called a “race knife,” these tools were used for marking many wooden things ranging from beams to barrels. By planting the point and swinging the scoop-shaped blade around, this tool cuts perfect circles into wood. Another similar blade swings out from the side for cutting lines.Mark(s)Stock marked "T over SYMONDS" and incised with the owner's initials "T T," and the date "1770."ProvenanceFormerly in the Paul Kebabian Collection.
