DescriptionLong cylindrical pole topped by removable flame finial with beaded collar; bulbous urn and ring turned pedestal supported on three cabriole legs each with acanthus carving on knees terminating in small knuckly claw and ball feetLabel TextDecorative and functional, fire screens were used to ward off drafts or reduce the direct heat from the fire on an individual's face. The height of the needlework screen could be adjusted as necessary. The foliate carving on the legs, which terminates with asymmetrical curves, is consistent with the rococo style in Philadelphia.
